Emterra's Statement Against Islamophobia

Emterra's Statement Against Islamophobia

June 09, 2021

On Sunday, June 6 in London, Ontario, a family of four spanning three generations was struck by a driver in a pre-meditated act of violence, simply because they were Muslim.

Islamophobic behaviour is not an isolated incident. This news is a heartbreaking reminder of the hate that continues to exist in Canada and around the world, and the constant need to stop it. We cannot play down the realities of Islamophobia, but act systemically and collectively to stand against it. We must unlearn our biases and lend our voices, support, and strength to combat the stereotypes and behaviours that lead to such heinous acts.

We encourage you to join us in doing the necessary work to eradicate racism, hate, and violence in our communities through action and education with the following resources:

Sign the Petition: National Action Summit on Islamophobia
Anti-Islamophobia 101 Virtual Workshop
Anti-Islamophobia Educational Resources
D.A.R.E Project: #DeleteRacism Social Media Assets
Bystander Intervention Strategies

Hate and violence of all kinds are not tolerated at Emterra Group and have no place in our society. We will continue to promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in our culture, our hiring and business practices, and invest in employee training that improves inclusiveness and understanding of unconscious bias in all our locations. Our Human Resources and Senior Leadership Team would welcome any feedback on improving our inclusive and equity efforts within Emterra. You can email your feedback directly to hr@emterra.ca

Our hearts are with the family and the Muslim community impacted by this tragedy.
