Emterra Group goes even greener with compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion

March 20, 2015

March 20, 2015 (Appleton, WI) – U.S. GAIN, a division of U.S. Venture, and Emterra Group, a Canadian leader in recycling resources collection and management are partnering in a new venture to build and operate the largest compressed natural gas (CNG) fuelling station in Ontario, Canada. It will be located in Mississauga, in the Greater Toronto Area.

The new station, to be operated as GAIN® Clean Fuel, will supply Emterra’s Mississauga-based fleet of 120 CNG waste and recycling collection vehicles. It will also be open to other companies with CNG fleets.

Emterra provides integrated recycling resource management and waste disposal solutions for the commercial, industrial and institutional (ICI) sectors and municipalities throughout Canada and the State of Michigan. It is converting its fleet of collection trucks from diesel to natural gas as part of its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution.

“Converting our fleet to CNG is the next logical step for our company to fully live our mission of improving the environment,” said Emmie Leung, Emterra’s Founder and CEO. “It’s the passion we have for creating sustainability that drives our efforts and we greatly appreciate the opportunity to partner with U.S. Gain. The new CNG station will make it possible for us to contribute to the environmental health and well-being of the communities we service by operating greener trucks.”

By the end of 2015, Emterra will have more than 200 recycling and waste collection natural gas trucks operating throughout Canada. CNG-fuelled trucks reduce emissions by about 20% and noise pollution by up to 90% compared to its diesel counterparts.

U.S. Gain General Manager Bill Renz is excited to partner with Emterra. “They are industry leaders in recycling waste materials and creating sustainability and we are thrilled to be helping them continue their mission with this new effort,” Renz said. “This will be our second GAIN Clean Fuel CNG station in Canada and it adds to our growing network of GAIN stations throughout North America.”

With this partnership, GAIN Clean Fuel is on track with its plan to have more than 100 CNG stations in operation within the next two years. There are currently 46 GAIN® Clean Fuel stations in operation or under construction throughout the U.S. and Canada, with stations strategically located along major carrier routes, creating significant benefit for its partner trucking firms. Each provides fast-fill capabilities and has fleet card acceptance. All of the GAIN stations are open for use by other companies and the general public.
