Emterra Group and Ryse Solutions Address Plastic Waste in Canada with Canada Plastics Pact Roadmap Launch

October 22, 2021

Oakville, ON., (October 22, 2021) – Founding partners of the Canada Plastics Pact (CPP), Ryse Solutions and parent company Emterra Group, are proud to join the CPP in announcing the launch of the CPP Roadmap. The CPP Roadmap offers a solution for Canadian companies to divert millions of tonnes of plastic waste (in Canada, 3 million tonnes) from landfills and the environment, back into the Canadian economy. Plastic waste results in a loss of 7.6 billion dollars CAD[1] annually.

The CPP Roadmap aims to solve this problem by guiding key players in the plastics packaging value chain to take meaningful action to transition towards a circular economy through individual action and collaboration.

The CPP Roadmap was the first action item for CPP Partners to layout the collective direction and execution strategies to achieve the CPP targets for 2025. The CPP Roadmap was developed through a collaborative process that involved organizations from all parts of the plastics packaging value chain.

As a producer responsibility organization with experience in creating circular solutions for a wide range of businesses and materials, Ryse Solutions proudly joined the CPP as a Founding Partner and contributed to the creation of the CPP Roadmap. “The CPP Roadmap is a step in the right direction. We have helped many companies adopt circularity throughout their practices and supply chains innovatively and cost-effectively to support their business objectives,” says Vice President of Ryse Solutions, Gordon Day. “As a forward-looking business partner to everyone from Fortune500 businesses to new small businesses, Ryse Solutions believes the CPP will make Canadian industries that use plastics packaging more circular.”

Emterra Group, parent company to Ryse Solutions, is known for transforming waste into resources, leading by example, and helping customers set and achieve their own circular goals.  This is why Emterra Group was invited to join the CPP, to contribute to the CPP Roadmap, and to deliver services to that expedite the transition to circularity.

With over two-thirds of the plastic packaging produced in Canada ending up in landfills or the environment before ever being placed in a blue bin or entering the recycling system, it is clear that a shared action plan was needed. “Every day, we are collecting, sorting, and processing valuable materials across Canada. We hope all Canadians take action and see plastic the same way we do, as a valuable circular resource that is indispensable to humankind,” says Paulina Leung, Chief Sustainability Officer of Emterra Group. “A transition from our current take-make-waste linear economy to a circular economy benefits all parts of society.”

About the CPP

The Canada Plastics Pact (CPP) is tackling plastic waste and pollution, as a multi-stakeholder, industry-led, cross-value chain collaboration platform. The CPP brings together Partners who are united behind a vision of creating a circular economy in Canada in which plastic waste is kept in the economy and out of the environment. It unites businesses, government, non-governmental organizations, and other key actors in the local plastics value chain behind clear actionable targets by the year 2025. By aligning with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Plastic Pact Network’s New Plastics Economy’s common vision of a circular economy for plastics, CPP partners commit to fundamentally rethinking the way we design, use, and reuse plastic packaging.
