Emterra Environmental and Peterborough Petes launching the Emterra Clean Community Cup™ initiative

Emterra Environmental and Peterborough Petes launching the Emterra Clean Community Cup™ initiative

Emterra Environmental, a division of Emterra Group, is excited to partner with the Peterborough Petes to launch the Emterra Clean Community Cup™ (ECCC) on the inaugural Provincial Day of Action on Litter in Ontario. The Province is planning to host a clean-up day during Waste Reduction Week, October 19-25, 2020.

In a bid to hoist the Cup, minor hockey teams will transform their benches from on-ice warriors to eco-warriors in a challenge to make their communities cleaner and greener. Teams will take part in a community clean-up initiative, sharing photos and videos of their efforts on social media, for everyone to see.

At the end of the season, 34 teams will be invited to a Petes’ home game hosted by Emterra. During an on-ice ceremony the ECCC Champion will be announced, receiving a $1,000 prize cheque and will be showcased on a custom wrapped feature wall in the Peterborough Memorial Centre year-round.

“Having set up our newest division in the City and County of Peterborough, Emterra is excited to bring its Community Care™ program to the region and its surrounding communities,” says Paulina Leung, Vice President Corporate Strategy and Business Development. “This new initiative will help influence sports fans of all ages to live healthy and active lifestyles, and to become stewards of their environment.”

“We are pleased to enter this new, multi-year partnership with Emterra Environmental and to welcome the Clean Community Cup™ program into the fold,” says Eric Ebenbauer, Director of Corporate Partnerships for the Peterborough Petes. “This program is a welcome addition— not only is it an opportunity to engage hockey fans into cleaning up the community but it will also be a fantastic team-building activity for the many local minor hockey teams that will be involved.”

Over three years, the ECCC will reach communities covering all of the City and County of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, the east side of Durham Region and parts of Northumberland and Hastings, with a combined population of over 375,000 hockey fans. With upwards of 35 hockey clubs and no less than 100 minor hockey teams, this initiative will activate thousands of individuals of all ages who are invested in Canada’s sport, in a region with one of the country’s deepest hockey roots.

“We all have a role to play in keeping our communities clean and healthy. On the Provincial Day of Action on Litter, we want all Ontarians to know that their actions – big or small – can make a difference,” says Jeff Yurek, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. “I’m pleased to see organizations like Emterra Environmental and the Peterborough Petes leading by example with a fun, community-minded program that will reconnect people with nature while helping make our province a cleaner, healthier place now and for future generations.”

This marks another addition to the growing roster of Emterra’s Community Care™ program, through which the company partners with local organizations to design and implement charitable giving programs. These programs not only donate funds to worthy causes, but also heighten awareness around waste reduction, entice consumers and businesses to recycle more and link community heath to sustainability.
