The Future is Green: Emterra Leads the Charge with New Zero Emissions Mobile Equipment

March 30, 2023

Emterra Group has been leading the charge in alternative green fleet technologies since the adoption of its Compressed Natural Gas fleet and fueling stations in 2012.

As we draw closer to launching Ontario’s first electric waste collection vehicle hitting the road this summer, Emterra is expanding its green energy equipment with the purchase of Volvo L25 Electric Wheel Loaders. These loaders will service the Metro Vancouver Central Surrey Recycling and Waste Centre (RWC) in British Columbia.

Metro Vancouver’s Climate 2050 strategy includes the transition to a resilient low carbon region over the next 30 years. Emterra’s purchase of the electric Volvo wheel loaders for the Central Surrey Recycling and Waste Centre is consistent with this plan,” said Peter Wishart, General Manager of Recycling and Waste Centres at Emterra Environmental. “We are proud to lead the charge in a space that positions Emterra at the forefront of critical green initiatives.”

Use of the electric wheel loaders is expected to significantly reduce noise pollution, save roughly $45,000 yearly in fossil fuel, reduce maintenance costs by 70% and ensure the Surrey RWC becomes a fully carbon neutral facility.

The new Central Surrey RWC opened on September 9, 2022 in partnership with Metro Vancouver.
