Community Care ™

Committed to improving the environmental health and well-being of the communities in which we live and work

Through our Community Care program, we partner with local organizations to design and implement innovative charitable giving programs. These programs not only donate funds to worthy community causes, but also heighten awareness around waste reduction, entice consumers and businesses to recycle more and link community health to sustainability.

Make Your Contribution at the Curb™

For every tonne of recyclables that residents place at the curb, Emterra donates $1. Make Your Contribution at the Curb, and it’s a program where we challenge communities to recycle more, and their response decides the funds we donate.

The program is running in two Canadian communities, including the Niagara Region in ON, as well as the City of Courtenay and the Town of Comox on Vancouver Island, BC.

The WRENCH

The WRENCH

At Emterra, we believe every child should experience the joy of riding a bike – especially since it’s a green mode of transportation and it keeps kids moving. To support this, Emterra has partnered with The Winnipeg Repair Education and Cycling Hub (WRENCH) and their ‘Earn-a-Bike’ program.

Through this program, kids are taught how to restore and transform recovered bikes, which contributes to a circular economy. Emterra then purchases helmets, and delivers those helmets and newly restored bikes to the kids who earned them.

Shred-a-Thon

Shred-a-Thon

The semi-annual Shred-a-Thon, in the City of Chilliwack, BC, is a bit of a tradition for this community nestled in the heart of the Fraser Valley. Each June and December, Emterra teams up with Shred-It and the Salvation Army, and residents make the trip to the Cottonwood Mall parking lot, where they can recycle and shred their cardboard and personal documents free of charge. In return, they are encouraged to bring a cash or food donation for the Salvation Army in Chilliwack. At each event, Emterra matches cash donations.

The event lays the perfect trail where one community need, the food bank, intersects with another community need, recycling, and each time, the community fills the parking lot and are eager to participate.

Emterra Clean Community Cup

The Emterra Clean Community Cup™ (ECCC) is an opportunity for minor hockey teams to partner with Emterra Environmental and the Peterborough Petes (Petes). In the quest to hoist the Cup, the teams will transform their benches from on-ice warriors to eco-warriors in a challenge to make their communities cleaner and greener.

To participate, teams must take part in a community clean-up initiative and record their efforts and share it on social media, tagging Emterra, the Petes and the program for everyone to see.

We are working to make this roster as big as possible! We expect to reach no less than 100 minor hockey teams, 35 hockey clubs and more than 375,000 local hockey fans.

Each month during the program, we’ll choose winners and at the end of the hockey season, 34 participating teams will be invited to a Petes’ home game hosted by Emterra. During an on-ice ceremony, the ECCC Champion will be announced.
