To our Emterra Family,
This year, the Federal Government identified September 30th as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is an opportunity for us all to reflect and remember the tragedies of the residential school system and the ongoing systemic issues that are still faced today by the First Nations communities.
The unmarked graves discovered this past year are unfortunately just the beginning of the unraveling of the horrors within the 132 residential schools in Canada.
At Emterra, we want to provide our employees with the opportunity to individually participate in contributing to our reconciliation donation activities.
Emterra will be extending a donation to Orange Shirt Day, and for every orange shirt worn by an Emterra employee on September 30th, Emterra will match it with a donation.
Whether you are a descendant of early settlers, a newcomer to Canada, or somewhere in between, reconciliation for First Nations communities is the right and responsibility of all Canadians.
To Indigenous peoples, you have been carrying the burden of this experience on your shoulders. We acknowledge that you have been working on recovering from this, and the Emterra Family is joining you on your healing journey.
Sincerely,
Emmie and the Leung Family
