Emterra Group has been recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2016 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. in its Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. The announcement, including a profile of Emterra was published in the Globe and Mail and online, as part of Earth Day celebrations.
The Canada’s Greenest Employers project shines a light on companies that initiate innovative programs to attract and retain talented employees. Emterra is the only company in the waste resources management sector to be acknowledged.
“We congratulate Emterra Group on being one of Canada’s Greenest Employers in 2016. It’s a wonderful achievement,” said Richard Yerema of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project.
The winning employers, selected by the editors at Canada’s Top 100 Employers are evaluated on the following criteria: (1) unique environmental initiatives or programs they have developed; (2) whether they have been successful in reducing their own environmental footprint; (3) whether their employees are involved in these programs and contribute any unique skills; and (4) whether their environmental initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity and attract new people to the organization.
“This is a great honour,” said Emterra Group Founder and CEO Emmie Leung. “At Emterra Group, we are conscious of how we can conduct our business with a ‘sustainability first’ philosophy and minimize the environmental footprint of operations. It’s an ongoing, dynamic process of engaging our staff to constantly look for and apply new ideas and technology to push our ability to be more efficient and at the same time consume less energy. This commitment is what has set us aside from other waste management companies during our 40-year history. It’s part of our unique Emterra DNA.
“It goes without saying that being named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers this year is a credit to all of Emterra’s employees, customers and partners, who through their own commitments to the environment move our company along the path of being more sustainability-driven every day. I want to thank each and every one of our teams,” Leung added.
Emterra is a Canadian leader in the waste resource recovery and waste management industry. It is also one of Canada’s most progressive users of alternative green fleet technologies in the waste management industry and consistently deploys the latest green technologies to truly “walk the talk.” This includes using compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, building public CNG fuelling stations and operating energy-efficient recycling plants that utilize optical sorting technologies.
