Emterra Group and BurlingtonGreen form partnership to increase public awareness of recycling and the circular economy in Burlington

Emterra Group values community as one of its pillars to success, noting that it is vital to strengthen the well-being of the communities in which we live and work through economic, social and environmental contributions. In support of the company’s mission and vision, Emterra has entered into a partnership with a Burlington, Ontario based not-for-profit organization, BurlingtonGreen Environmental Association.

The partnership between Emterra and BurlingtonGreen has officially kicked off with the mutual goal of helping Burlington-based businesses integrate circular economy and waste reduction practices into their business culture so that they will not only be greener but also save money.

In addition to creating education toolkits, both organizations plan to co-host a series of lunch-and-learn sessions, as well as host bi-annual tours at Emterra’s recyclables material recovery facility in Burlington. This experience will provide attendees with a first-hand understanding of what happens to recyclables once collected.

According to BurlingtonGreen’s executive director, Amy Schnurr, the relationship between both organizations showcases the importance of raising awareness in Burlington’s business community for increased waste minimization and diversion.

“BurlingtonGreen is eager to see more businesses in Burlington practice accountability in waste diversion, and thus we are very pleased to partner with Emterra Group to help make this happen,” says Schnurr. “Together, we aim to make it easier for residents and local businesses to reduce their impact on the environment through awareness campaigns and incentive programs.”

“This new partnership with BurlingtonGreen will offer Burlington businesses an opportunity to understand how they can play a strong role in breaking the current models of linear consumption of make-use-dispose to circular models where resources are continuously recovered and reused in the manufacturing of new green products,” says Paulina Leung, Emterra Group’s Vice-President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development. “By combining our expertise in recycling with the community reach of BurlingtonGreen, we are building a relationship that will empower local businesses to make real environmental changes and support the province’s mandate for a waste-free Ontario and circular economy.”

While organizations are welcome to start working with both Emterra and BurlingtonGreen at any time, the first scheduled events are expected to be held in the spring of 2019.
