On the heels of last year’s win, Emterra Environmental was pleased to be a finalist once again in the 2016 BC Workplace Inclusion Awards in the category of large business. The award which is sponsored by the Open Door Group was this year awarded to VanCity during an awards gala in Vancouver, BC. Emterra Environmental would like to congratulate VanCity on their award win and the work they continue to do for workplace inclusion.
The 2016 BC Workplace Inclusion Awards celebrates businesses and individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive workplaces.
“The list of finalists is impressive and being included with organizations like Canadian Tire, Tim Hortons and VanCity makes us honoured to be a finalist,” says Emmie Leung, Founder and CEO of Emterra Group. “We have made hiring and training employees who may otherwise struggle to find employment a priority and this nomination recognizes that.”
The award is part of the UnTapped initiative lead by Open Door Group, BC’s largest not-for-profit provider of employment services. The UnTapped program focuses on tapping into new talent pools like aboriginal communities, candidates with disabilities, recent immigrants, women, youth, older workers, and more as a top priority for BC businesses.
“I was once a young immigrant to Canada, I have worn those shoes, and I know how they feel. Now, I am in unique positions to empower others who may be struggling, who are working towards new goals, new shoes,” adds Leung. “I am happy to be part of and to support organizations like Open Door Group who recognizes the talents and skills these individuals have to offer, and we are happy to hire them.”
