Emterra Environmental contributes to new operating room at hospital

Emterra Environmental does more than collect recyclables from our blue boxes. It also helps our Comox Valley Hospital provide healthcare to local residents by making an annual contribution to the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation (CVHF) based on how much residents recycle.

Last year Emterra collected over 2,300 tonnes of recyclables in the community and, on June 26, presented a cheque for the same amount to CVHF to help fund a fourth operating room (OR) in our new hospital. This brings to total amount Emterra has given to CVHF over nine years to more than $17,000.

Emterra’s “Make Your Contribution at the Curb^TM” (MYCATC) pledges to give CVHF $1 for every tonne of recyclables Emterra collects from residents in the Comox Valley each year.  This year’s contribution to the 4^th OR will enable Comox Valley Hospital to provide life-saving operations to more patients on a faster turn-around time.  MYCATC is part of Emterra’s Community Care^TM program.

We do that by operating a recycling business that ensures resources are recovered to be used again and by supporting local healthcare initiatives,” said Ed Walsh, Emterra’s VP of Operations in BC.

 “We are so thankful for Emterra’s continuing support of local healthcare needs,” said Lynn Dashkewytch, Executive Director at CVHF. “They have been a great community partner for many years, supporting the purchase of new equipment, as well as this most recent donation to helping to expand our services. What a great way to give back to our local healthcare system while helping the environment.”

 Walsh emphasized that Comox residents can increase the amount Emterra gives to the Foundation each year by making sure they recycle everything that’s accepted in the local recycling program.
